By Danyelle Carlson, Advocacy Coordinator & Executive Assistant
Mountain Family is proud to announce that we have been recognized as a Gold Status Advocacy Center of Excellence (ACE) by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). Becoming an ACE means that Mountain Family is doing actual work to make advocacy and patient engagement a priority. What does that mean? It means Mountain Family’s Board of Directors passed a resolution making advocacy a priority and works to recruit and engage advocates in the community. It means that Mountain Family now has an Advocacy Task Force that meets monthly to discuss and act on issues facing community health centers and the patients we serve. It also means that Mountain Family has 268 Advocates signed up with the Health Center Advocacy Network who regularly get information on how to speak out on our behalf and use their voices to support our mission of serving more than 20,000 patients within our service area.
Mountain Family is also recognized as a Hispanic Advocacy Center of Excellence (HACE) one of only five Community Health Centers (CHCs) in the country to have this recognition. Diversity and cultural acceptance are valued at Mountain Family and we want to make sure that we are sharing the news about how to advocate with as many people as possible. Ensuring that our Spanish-speaking patients and community partners are kept in the loop is important to our mission and staying connected to our community.
Editor’s note: Danyelle is at the forefront of advocating for access to health care in Colorado, and won a statewide advocacy award in February.
